Purple tea is a rare tea variety grown in the Mt. Kenya region, derived from the common tea leaf, Camellia Sinensis. Green, black and white teas are processed from the green tea bush, but purple tea has purple leaves with superior health benefits and is known scientifically as TRFK - 306. We just call it amazing.

A Higher Purple
This new variety of the classic tea plant was only recently developed and is exclusive to Kenya. Purple tea is grown in cooler conditions, at an elevation of between 4,500 and 7,500 feet. This allows the plants to sustain more intense sun rays causing it to produce high levels of protective anthocyanins and higher levels of polyphenols.
Purple tea contains red and purple anthocyanins – antioxidants which produce the distinctive reddish purple colors of the leaves. Blueberries are particularly rich in anthocyanins, which have been shown in studies to help fight cancer, cardiovascular disease, and cognitive issues. Purple tea, however, has a much higher content of anthocyanins than blueberries – 1.5 percent compared to 0.1 percent.
