HOW IT WORKS:
Seed a Future Initiative
A Story of Staggering Statistics
Tea plucking is carried out by a majority of female workers who tend to produce better quality tea. In Kenya, 95% of the land is owned by men, either inherited or purchased. For female tea pickers, land ownership is the key to financial freedom. As a purpose-driven brand, we help make their dreams a reality.
The World as We Know It Today
Female Tea Pickers:
Earn between $1 and $2 per day
Earn yearly wages of about $600
Spend $300 to $900 per year per child for schooling
The World We Can Achieve
Opportunity shouldn’t be determined by whether you’re born a girl or boy. We break down barriers holding girls and women back by providing access to empowering assets like land, critical training and skills, and scholarships for their children, so they can lift themselves out of poverty. Join us.
Land is Key to Financial Freedom
The average lease for a one-acre tea farm is about $480 a year. With a one-acre plot, income potential from tea alone is $3,200 a year – 5-6X a tea picker’s current income. This income gives a tea picker choices she never had before: she can repay her loan, save money to purchase a plot of land, educate her children – and consider the future.
Training and Education
Access to land is critical but to ensure likelihood of success, we provide training and education in financial management and budgeting, gender equity issues and other important skills.
An education is the best path out of poverty but oftentimes, these single women do not have the means to send their children to school. We award life-changing scholarships to their children to break the cycle of poverty.
